Honestly, not to call you out but you are totally missing the surface area as it reacts against the water and the hydrodynamics when you cut a piece of foam from a place where it should be. A swallow tail will not perform the same as a squash, but you notice these things as you surf for several years, not because of our knowledge of physics.

Also, seems we are talking about a wide cut fish tail, not a small cut swallow. I used to cut a small half moon into my boards, it was mostly for show since it made the board unique. You can find pictures of my boards on the forum
