So what? This kind of stuff happens all the time. Get over yourself and get one with your life. Everyone was a "kook" (God I hate that word) at one point.

Over here, if you're a kook in the wrong place.. you're going to be in a world of pain. Out in the zone or back at shore, doesn't matter.

Agreed. It's why I'd never go to Hawaii for surfing. The place is loaded with assholes.

in our modern internet yeye times, people should know how to get to know the basics without needing someone to give them a lesson on the beach.

They aren't assholes.
I love surfing in Hawaii because they do self regulate in the water. Over there if you can show you know what you are doing and show respect, realizing you are at there home, then you will have a blast. Show respect, get respect. Give a wave, get a wave.

Also, know your place in the line up if you go there.

Harvey is correct.

However there are spots here even us skilled surfers still can't get waves at. It's more about who you know, who you're with rather than what you know or can do. I've seen old uncles who can barely top turn scold others

That is the reason I put:
"Also, know your place in the line up if you go there."
as the last line. The rules don't always follow anything close to what can be termed "making sense".
Sometimes even the kookiest Hawaiian native that is going to face plant on drop in will be the on snaking you and you just have to take it. Doesn't bother me though. Plenty of other spots to paddle out.

In a world with perfect waves, regulation is necessary. Kooks (kukai here) put other people in danger, especially in spots like Kewalos and Kaisers on big days. Don't get me started on country side, there's a reason wolfpak is up there. I believe if you don't know what you're doing, you have NO place to be in a spot you shouldn't be in. It may sound harsh to some, but there are other ways to enjoy surfing here without becoming a bullseye nuisance. If you're a beginner, stick to beginner spots.

CHRIST! I hate that stupid name too! (KOOKS!) Almost like if you dont know the trendy slang your one by default. How wonderfully inclusive is our favorite sport!

"if you don't know what you're doing, you have NO place to be in a spot you shouldn't be in"

RIGHT, fine. BUT and its a BIG but, how will that guy ever learn anything, if everyone bullies him into staying in the 3 feet of white water hes learned to stand up in? To progress you NEED to challenge yourself, you need to make mistakes and have some spills, bruises, etc. And ding your board! Or you can stay nice and safe and warm in your arm chair and spout crap at all the "KOOKS"!

Dont get me wrong, throwing your board away and diving under a wave when someone is behind you is S-T-U-P-I-D beyong belief, the guy needed a word, a talking to, some instruction. He didnt need a thump from some meathead with an oversize ego. If you see someone doing something dangerous, to them or others, TELL THEM! Respectfully and politely! (If they still do it then thump them, their obviously tw*ts and dont give a damn)

I have been surfing for 6 years and I cant think of any other sport where beginers are treated with such disrespect, animosity bordering on hatred. I've never experienced it myself but then I'm 6 foot 4 inches tall and not many people would.

BTW, the guy whos board got mangled by the longboarder - I admire what you did. I guess I would have been too pissed off and angry too to "offer advice". I see your point . . . :(

Chill everyone, none of us own the ocean, the ocean owns us!

yeah, hate those ppl that doesnt know surf etiquettes, the semifish i'm using right now had a huge gash across 1/3 of the nose when i took it out on the second day when a kook decided not to hold onto his nsp minimal facing an oncoming wave; i still use it, but not taking on the usual size i would usually ride with it because i'm afraid it may snap off...
