Steep waves advice or techniques

Postby Taigh » Wed Apr 25, 2007 8:44 am

Hi
I went out today in about a 2m swell and it was really steep.Every time I took of on the wave I would pop up and try to go down the face but my nose would just hit the water at the bottom. It was like I was taking off on a verticle drop. Is there ant advice or techniques to help me keep control of my board. Sometimes my board also shoots out from under me.

i take it your on a long board or a minimal

angle your take-off across the wave face a little and put a little more weight on your back foot, pop-up as quickly as you can also

or maybe you are too far forward on the nose, try moving a little towards the tail when you're paddling..goodluck

yes, well if there are steep waves, usually it is easyer to take off on an angle instead of going straight angle the board so your moving sideways down the face not straight down it

If you're too deep in you will always nosedive. Try paddling a little further out..and paddling earlier to get momentum.

theres alot of things that could solve your problems, and they've already been said by the others but ill go ahead and list them too

1) angle your board
2) get further out (assuming you are on a fuller shaped board)
3) get up earlier

angling the board will help the most imo though
