Used Board Sales

Hey,

Tommorrow morning, after I go on the dawn patrol there is a used surfboard sale. And there are some real bargains there. I'm finding used shortboards that'll be fifty dollars (anything between 6'9"-6'6" will do), and I wonder about shopping for used surfboards in general, because I bought my current board (a 7'2" funboard), brand new. How do I know a 'too good to be true' type deal is in place? I inspected the boards, they looked OK, well used, but OK. What should I look for in a used board, other than aesthetics...

just give it a really good look over and dont be shy to ask the seller questions in particular the reason for selling / board history. As a general rule i wont buy a board from anyone under 25 (have you seen how these groms treat their boards )

Also if the board is damaged then make sure you examin the extent of the damage and weather a home repair will be sufficiant. I got my board for peanuts because it looked trashed but all it took was a little bit of time and some reglassing and it was tip top

check for de-lams, dings which might be letting in water, damage to fins and where tthey meet the board, chips on the nose or tail(s). check along the stringer especially near the nose for any repairs across the width of the board. Bu basically if it looks good and doesnt have any major damage then its ok, i have a couple of really smached up boards which are still just about usuable but the damge on them is pretty obvious, its not hard to spot.
