Oh no! Not another "Recommend..." thread!

As sickening annoying as I know it to be to be asked for advice from a lowly semi-n00b, let me apologize beforehand for my ignorance.

I have been riding 7'2" SurfBetty for about two years now, and the beginner's bug has really been floating away from me. For sad Surfside waves, I've been improving dramatically as time has gone on. I feel like my board is holding me back, and I feel that I can move on to a smaller board. My step-brothers' both have about 4 pro boards between them, which is pretty ridiculous considering they do not surf more than once or twice a year.

I went out with the younger brother's 6'4" and really, really enjoyed it. I liked how much easier it was to carry into the water and also the challenge of paddling on a less bouyant board. I did not, however, like his massive dings that he didn't seem to care about taking care of.

Again, my board is a 7'2", 14 1/4", 21" 16"

I'm wanting to move to around a 6'4", 6'8" area... but I'm not perfectly sure how I'm planning to go about it. I have a limited amount of cash, which is undefined right now.. but will probably be no more than 250... but at the same time, I'm doubting it'll even hit 100.

I'm lucky that my birthday falls near the end of the Summer, there are usually alot of sales going on.

I'm about 5'2" and weigh about 100 lbs. Any suggestions?

Also, I've found Breaker to be the best shop around my area that sells. We've been a few times, and even after the first visit, we were remembered everytime we returned beyond that point... I've been thinking about checking the Surfhouse and maybe some random shops for cheap-o used boards... but I'm a little afraid of finding that my money will only be enough to get me another NSP or BIC trade... which is DEFINETELY not what I'm after. I'm looking for a board that will last me a couple of years, and I'm not afraid of the difficulty of the board. A challenge is fine by me.

Sounds like between your birthday and if you hawk your Betty for a couple bucks, you should have plenty of cash.

I don't know if anything has changed in the board industry locally or not since last time I bought a board (a few months back), but last I checked boards were expensive right now because of the whole Clark Foam thing, except for epoxy (they have always been expensive).

I don't know if the price of a board ever went down or not, but I would buy a used one. I just bought a 8'4" carbon reinforced epoxy SouthPoint for almost $600 (I could have bought two NICE used fiberglass boards for that), but I needed a board in that length range that day, so..... I bent over.

I like used boards better. Your just going to use it anyway.
