Need another board-is this too short?

Have a 6'4 X 19 3/4 X 2 3/8 rounded pin which goes like a dream. Although i find it quite hard to duck dive well in larger surf. Can take off, do the odd turn here and there but nothing incredible. Am 5'5 inch tall and 8 1/2 stone. Will be moving away soon, so need a board to take away with me so can leave the 6'4 at home. Thought i'd go shorter so i can prgress. Usually surf british waves. Looking at 6'2 X 19 1/4 X 2 1/4f rounded pin like the channel island M4 template.

You guys think these dim's are way too small or would it be a do-able step from the 6'4?

I don't know why you'd want to drop your 6'4 and go shorter. Progress more on that till your confidant you can go shorter. taking 1 or 2 inches off wont make the slightest difference

nah I mean I need a similar board so i can leave the 6'4 at home and have one where I'll be staying weekdays i.e the 6'2 but wondering if by taking 2 inches off the length and half inch off the width will make much difference with wave catching etc?

actually takin off a couple inches, makes a pretty sizable difference. Theres a big difference between riding a 6'4'' that has more thickness, and a 6'2'' that is thinner. For one the 6'2'' will be harder to catch waves with, but it will be easier to rip with. In the end if you can catch and ride good sized waves consistently and you feel your ready to progress then yah go for it man.

yep, its the thickness that youll notice rather the length and width. Youll be sitting lower in the water and find it harder to paddle up to speed, but the biggest difference will be riding it and keeping your speed up.
How well can you pump? if you can keep speed then youll find it much lighter and easier to chuck about once you get used to it, but why leave the 6-4 at home? take both, then you can use the 6-4 when the waves are a bit more gutless while youre getting used to the 6-2.

ok thanks guys, think i'll leave it until I'm throwing spray and really confident i casn go down to a few inches, I'll probably appreciate it more-might actually hinder my surfing if i get it now and lower the wave count.
