Well time to move to down to a shortboard

Postby LovintheSurf » Wed Aug 30, 2006 3:54 am

So ive been surfin a 7'4'' Gun for the past month and a half, and its nice and all, but im starting to hit bigger, steeper, and hollow ass waves (round 6 feet faces and so) and i want something smaller so i can get in them easier. Today i was out, and it was the final straw when i missed a couple of tubes due to the fact that i didnt get in quick enough and then eating some xxxxx. Anyway, i was thinking about this Santa Cruz board, its a 6'6'' but it has a lot of width and thickness. It is 19.8 inches wide and 2.5 inches thick. I myself am 5'11' but weigh 175. So i think it would be good in that it still has some bouyancy but is smaller so i can realy carve the wave up and get in and out alot easier. Just wondering if you guys had any opinions. Im pretty new to surfing, but progressing fast, and thats why i didnt want anythin too thin or narrow, but what do u guys think??? would it be a good first board to start really ripping it with?

sorry, i know alot of you dont care, but ur opinions would matter alot
THANKS :D :D :D

oh and here is a link to the board

dont woory about standing up on that. I was riding a bic 7.3 for 2 weeks and i moved on to a wide and fat 6.6. After a day i was standing up 100% of the time.
If you think 6.6 is a good size for you take it. Im pretty small and light.
Also you will probably go too much forward, bail to the side (i personnaly on the firs day whent to much forward flipped over, board hit me in knee (i had a 4/3 wetsuit so only a small cut) but my board's nose got a nice bing).
Some people at surf shops are REALLY nice and usfull.

that sounds pretty good espeially as it is fairly wide and thick that should make it a lot easier i should think. 7.4 Gun? I would like to see a pic of that as im riding a 7.4 thruster/gun style as well at the mo.

Id Say that you will be fine on that :) imsame hight as you and ride a 6'7 harder to ride smaller waves than a 7'4 but for biggerwaves 5ft up it should be ideal
