Thickness

Postby Dec » Sun Jul 30, 2006 3:48 pm

Hey guys and girls!

I have introduced one of my pals to surfing about a year ago, and he has progressed enough on the 7'2 so I thought I would put him on a shortboard to see how he goes.

He is about 11/12 stone?! Hmm..I guess about 6' or just under in height.

So with the board size, I was thinking something like a 6'8 or 6'10, but I didn't know what thickness would be best for him?

Thanks :)

i would say about 2" + , give him alot of boyancy so he can get used to a shortboard easy, you could always get him a big fish

2" is very thin! Especially for a 12 stone bloke.

Dec you're saying "put him on a shortboard" and then mention a 6'8 or 6'10......does not compute:?

Only kidding.....your "friend" wouldnt be you would it "my friend has this green rash on his winky".......dont be ashamed to say you fancy shortboarding 8)

OK.....back to the matter in hand.....I have a longboard/aircraft carrier (6'6) which is 2 and 3/8 inches and thats very bouyant, but I only weigh 10 stone.

I would say he'd need at least that for a bit of stability.

 This bloke isn't me unfortunately! I have been shortboarding my whole life :D (yes, on an aircraftboard..6'6 :? )

This bloke is actually only a kid really, he's 15 and quite "built"

So I am presuming at least 2-1/2?..Or can I not read?

Yeah......2 and a half should do the trick.

Why do people still use inches.....so confusing :?

I'd go 6'6" to 6'8" and 2.5" thick
maybe 19.5" wide
