I had shared about Boca Barranca last year. Got some drone footage my son took. I love that place.

Seems a lot closer from the airport than the trip I did to Tamarindo and Playa Negra. Is there surf year round?

There is year round surf. It needs solid south swell to get into B.B.

I would set up base camp an hour south in Hermosa, Jaco, or Esterillos. Hermosa has the most consistent surf in CR, Esterillos has all kinds of varying waves, and Jaco party town with cheap massages to keep your body together. Get to Boca by 445 AM to beat the crowd and stretch and paddle out (super duper dicey, but worth it) by 515.

You can
Park with Cundino and get a coffee for 6 buck or so total.

If only interested in surfing Boca there are a couple acceptable hotels you can walk to surf from.

Those look like some fun waves. Once I get my Spanish perfected, maybe I'll venture down there to work on my backside surfing. .

CR is absolutely espanol no necessito. Especially not fluent Spanish. Just try your best with it smile and be kind and you will get it in return. Excellent English speakers around a lot of the coast.

The two things I like to do most on a vacation (aside from spending time with friends, food & drinking) are to get some fun surf and to practice using a foreign language. Spanish is my current language obsession so I'm sure CR would be great. It's also an excellent language to know for surfing. I want to reach that sweet spot in my language competency where I can have fun using the language. I'm not there yet, but soon.

I am also working hard on my Spanish. How are you studying? I teach many Hispanic students that help me, I am using Babel and duolingo in concert, and I’m going back to costa for a week every 3-6 months for Spanish immersion. I’m also auditing a traditional college Spanish course this summer.

Ideas are appreciation. Conjugation is a bitch.
