Next board (currently on 6'2'' performance fish)

Postby surftheiop » Mon Aug 15, 2005 2:47 am

First my surfing history, i live on isle of palms in South Carolina which means about biggest waves of the year are head high. Learned on longboard, got given a 15 year old 6'7''. about a year ago i bought a 6'2'' Orion performance fish its pretty much the back half of a fish and the fron half of a perforance board attached together. I love this board and have learned to consistently do pretty big back/front side closeout snaps. The thing is im looking to turn these snaps into airs. Ive gotten in air some but board is way to big to do it consistently. Im wondering how much board size im gonna wanna lose to start working on airs? im 5'8'' 135lbs.

a 6'2 isn't too big to air, I've almost aired my funboard, it's just really a matter of really kickign out your tail and pumping harder to get more speed.

and that's really all, weight is really your big issue.

Yep agreed, you just need a steep lined up wave to pump up more speed then you'll fly 8) .

ok thanks for the input, i figured this was probaly the case seeing as ive had better luck getting in the air in places like hatteras as apposed to where i live. If i did want to move down in board size just for general manueverbility how big of a difference would i notice between a 6 foot performance board to my 62 performance fish hybrid?

depends on how good your surfing is, where your fins are, what shaper it's from, what the rest of the board is like, what size fins you have, the rocker, where you surf it, how you surf it....

get the idea?

If you went from a hp fish to a hp chip, you'd notice, but depending on your surfing, a fish would punt better.
