More time surfing. Get someone to record you surfing so you can spot weaknesses. Most progressive maneuvers need lots of speed and drive in turns. Work on speed generation and control of it. Most people of your skill level should know what they need to do on should be hireing a local pro surf coach in order to better their surfing. Check it there are any professional surf coaches in your area. A lot of times they also do video recording with the coaching session. Smaller boards really are not going to make your surfing improve.

Progressive moves or any of them require the right wave and the right place on the wave. First of all I wonder what is it you mean by "I've got all my turns down?" What turns exactly have you got down? Progressive moves start as variations on the regular stuff.
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

You wrote on another post " on my frontside surfing (regular stance) I can perform cutbacks, off the lips and almost some more progressive maneuvers but... my backside surfing is terrible." That is one thing you need to work on. A back side bottom turn is like a front side cutback. If you improve you backside surfing, your front side cutbacks will improve.

I have found tail sliding turns easier to do in two situations so far. One is on a top turn and you do it by turning a little later than a normal top turn and pushing really hard with your back foot. The other is at the end of a cutback. I do my cutback all the way around so I am pointing back toward the wave then I do a snapping quick turn back down the line with lots of pressure on my back foot and sometimes tail slide automatically. I do this on a frontside cutback and end up with the board pointing up the wave and sliding sideways till I let it go straight. I am however still learning to do them myself.
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.
