New short board surfer

Postby kurowkun » Sat Sep 05, 2015 4:13 am

hey guys, i just wanted to ask is this board right for me ? i'm 5'3" and weight 140 lbs. the board i bought at a yard sale was going for $100 and thought it was a steal 5'8" height, 1" 3/4 thickness, 1'7" 3/4 width with a rocker aswell. where i surf its 1-2 4/7 days and 2-3 3/7 days and some south swells is gets to 3-4 at the most. I gave it a test run today and did fairly bad caught a couple waves around 3-4 in a 2 hour session with a bunch of my friends.

Are you sure those dimensions are correct?

How old are you?

If you have to ask, then the board is almost certainly unsuitable.

And you actually might be correct.

1" 3/4 ? Maybe more like 2 3/4" ( look at the distance from your finger tips to the end of your hand as you gripping the rail

1'7" 3/4 ? 12" + 7" ? Yeah, 19 3/4" looks about right

Then you answered your own question.

But it will be a fun board for you one day ( if the owner doesn't find you with it ). What size board did you ride previous to this one ?

Did you measure the board yourself, or are the dimensions written on it? It doesn't look as thin as your measurements suggest. 1 3/4" is very thin for a surfboard.

Either way, for a surfer with 6 months experience you'd most likely be better on a larger board, like the one you previously rode. Surfing is not a race to get on the smallest board possible in the least amount of time.

Hard to tell exact dimensions from a photo, but clear enoug to see that those dims are off....that's a chubby little groveler, fat tail fat rails, lots of foam all the way up through the nose. Perfect for mushy smaller waves and should do ok in the conditions you described. As long as you get out regularly I bet that will be a good board for you, if not at first. Dims like you described are for grommy boards and that is not one of those. Cheers.
