newbie here, purchased T&C shortboard 6'4

Postby mrlegion1983 » Sat Feb 22, 2014 2:22 am

hey whats up yall, so anyway I am new to the sport and currently reside in South Florida, I am 30yrs old and about 5'10 170lbs, prior to me purchasing this t&c 6'4 shortboard a Florida shaper company, I was into bodyboarding riding a bz 42" and also i was a aggressive inline skater for a good 15yrs before i got tired of busted shins, and injuries I stopped skating at age 27, and I was at my best too when i decided to quit and focus on going to work and not have call outs, since growing older gotta hold that steady job and pay bills

I want to surf and I looked at the different options available, yes i could of purchased a longboard and work my way down in sizes, since all the threads I read were about shortboards recommend that is not a good start for a beginner board, but i figured f*ck it, if i am gonna go into this i am gonna go hard, meaning i love the challenge, and i have the patience to deal with the steps that required to get acquainted with my board.

at first i was like damn maybe I did purchase the wrong board, but eventually i would of probably ended up on a shortboard. I figure being in shape and working out 4x a week, eating healthy, :woot: staying away from the alcohol only here and there only whenever its called for. I believe i can accomplish my goal, i live literally right next to Palm Beach and Lake Worth Beach, and also enjoy going to Juno Beach

il probably get dissed on by other surfers when they see me out there trying, cause its mostly the same surfers in lake worth beach that saw me bodyboard, but you know what fleshin' em, i dont gotta be cool with them or friends with them , i gotta believe in myself that i can do it.

i was out yesterday at lw beach, working on just the pop ups, one thing i love with the shortboard is duck diving, unlike the bodyboard sometimes i can be a bitch to swim out when waves are constantly breaking due to the chop, and with the shortboard, i felt like i flew out, it felt like i was gliding. i am looking forward to 3"+ surf, great part is i can go to the beach 4x a week or i can go 2x a week, whichever and however i go i know i am gonna be the water doing hard work.

well heres my introduction, i hope i can be cool with everyone on the forum, get guidance, come on here to bs , i respect all of ya, skaters surfers stoners, :o </zzzzzz#~~~

Welcome to the forum. It makes the most sense to start with a board that you will want to use as you progress but it does make for a steeper learning curve. Keep at it.
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

thanks, going to go as much as i can, even if theres flat days on the beach il go just to work on paddling,
worse case scenario if i dont see my progress in the next 6months i wil try to trade my board for a 6'9 or 7'4, but i feel confident i can do it, just waiting for that surf to come in,,

magicseaweed drives me crazy, i usually schedule vacation days when i see the surf is going to be good 1 week in advance based on magicseaweed than come 2days to that requested day i check magicseaweed and the numbers changes, to much flucuations with magicseaweed, lol if i didn't have to work il be at the beach everyday ready for that surf to come

i am glad i went with this shortboard, but actually look forward to a later one until i figure out my style, so far i been in the water enjoying it, and needless to say i guess i was fortunate to have good sucess with my first time, and i dam swear i should i done this a long time ago lol , today i spent almost the whole day at the beach, and each wave was fun as fkkkkkk! , :woot:

i guess some people got it and some people dont :woot: , or require practice but whatever its fun as fk

Learning on a shortboard is not a question of "challenge". For exemple, a shorter board can turn even if you have a poor technique so you will feel like you can turn properly, a longer board forces you to develop an efficient turning technique. It will take more time to figure out how to turn properly if you learn on ashortboard. I did the same mistake when i was 15, looking back i just wasted time trying to jump directly on the second step. Even ten good sessions on a longer board would help you a lot. Just try.
