beginner: from 6´8 to 6´0

Hello everyone

I´m new to this forum, first time poster.

I´m also new to surfing, have a 6´8" x 21 x 2 5/8 that i´ve tried a few times in waves from waist high to overhead. I can catch waves on it and take a few turns if the conditions are not too heavy, so i´m a beginner.

I live in a place where it´s pretty difficult getting gear but now i can get a 6’0 x 20 1/4 x 2 5/8 webber gutterlover for not too much money. -So i was wondering should i go for it and keep it until i´m good enough to ride it or just skip it. How long would it take to progress into being able to ride such a board?

I know it´s a difficult question to answer, but i´m just trying to get some idea about the difference from using a 6´8 and then going down to this 6´0. So my question should maybe be how much more difficult is it to catch waves and do very basic riding on the gutterlover compared to my 6´8 ?

Honestly.
I would say skip it for now. You will know when you are ready it could take months or even years for you to be ready (depending on how often you surf) and second hand boards are always available for a range of prices. You could even use the time learning on your current board to save up so you can get yourself a custom board when you know more about how you surf and can get one made to match you by someone who knows what they are talking about!

Thanks for the reply. I think i´ll just do like you say and stick to the 6´8, I also mainly windsurf so that does not leave me with that many surfing days to progress fast. The 6´8 will serve me well and it will probably be a long time until i need another board.

I would buy a cheap used transition board, say 6'3 to 6'4, then the 6'0 once you master that one
