Leash length ??

I have always been told that your leash length should be roughly the length of your board which is what I do. Ex: 6-10" to 7-4" boards I have 7' leashes. If I added a foot to my leash would that eliminate some of the drag on my beatings?

I use 6ft leashes for all my boards except my longboard, even on my 7'6 gun
