NEED HELP!!!!

ok, so im not new to surfing at all but i am new to shortboards. Ive always ridden longboards and fun shapes. I bought a short board about a year ago and never ridden it much due to not being near the beach. now that i have moved to the beach i am trying to ride it. I can paddle it easy now and i can even catch them fairly easy. I can stand but when i do i pretty much just wipe out. Is there any advise i could get with helping me stand up and ride the wave? any help would be great. thanks bros

Don't look at your feet, just pop and look where you want to go.

or focus a fixed point on the shore, or another surfer in the water some 50 meters away or so..
its the same like getting on a high pole.. if you look at your feet, its realy hard to stand up.. but when you focus on a point a bit away from you and on horizontal level, its waaaay easier to get up...

When you get to your feet try to keep low in a crouched position with your legs bent, rather than bolt upright. Doing this will keep your centre of gravity low and less likely to loose your balance. When you feel more comfortable you can straighten your legs a little more. Keep a bit more weight on your back foot rather than your front so its 40:60. Hope that helps.

Short Boards are a lot more unstable when you jump from prone position to standing and because your used to more surface area of a long board you are probably popping up the old way - you may even be in the wrong position on you board. First get your position right on the board in order to pop up, when you do pop to your feet, look up, eyes up - stay in this position in a low crouch and make sure you have caught the wave before standing up. Leg strength and stability work may also help.
