Channel islands fishcuit vs skinny fish

Postby Northcoast03 » Sun Jun 13, 2010 6:33 am

I'm really considering getting one of these Channel Islands surfboards but I can't decide which one to get. Any relative information on these boards would be greatly appreciated

I've been riding a Skinny Fish - 5'x10''x20.5 for about two years now and have so far found this to be the most versatile board here in the UK.

It's thinner rails (compred to a standard retro fish) allow for much tighter and faster turns whilst a quad set up adds drive and hold in steeper waves. Also, more rocker and narrower nose fit much easier into the pocket when it gets a bit bigger and cleaner.

Although I've had the most enjoyable rides when it's clean and up to 8-9', the board will do well in small, sloppy conditions gliding across many flat section where a shortboard wouldn't.

Not a picnic to duckdive,. . . well, at least not as easy as a shorty, but this might be due to my weight/strength/technique.

I find the board dims pretty spot on to my skill (intermediate), weight (11.5 stone), and height ( 5'11'').

Hope this helps.

HelloThere,
I surf a fishcuit 5'8 and i find it really good for small and mellow surf, as it's pretty much the only conditions i've used it for. i found out that once it gets a bit hollow, you'd better get fast on the take off as it has absolutly no rocker which is good for speed in small and mellow surf.
I also found out that it's not the best board for turns as it has a wide tail on Quad fins. It's good for snaps cutties and airs as it gets incredible speed. I love that board. Never tried the skinny fish thow.
