Do you think this Board will be good for me?ned to kno today

Postby hotdog. » Tue Jul 14, 2009 4:47 pm

So, ive been surfing for around 2 months or so, i feel relatively confident. Im 6'2 and 170 pounds

Ive been surfing on a 7'6 bic, and its good for catching waves but it isnt very responsive.

Im looking for a short board thats relatively easy to get up on/catch waves with but is also responsive so i can carve around on it.

I mainly surf New symerna beach in Florida, as well as Narragansett in RI and White crest beach in wellfleet Cape cod

ok, now i can get a 6'8 summer fish swallow tail the demensions are 6'8x20 3/4x2 3/4
and i can also get an ACTION board, thats 6'4x 19x 2 1/2. i can also get a 6'6 summer fish swallow tail Length: 6'6" * Width: 20 1/2 * Thickness: 2 1/2". do any of these sound right? im really looking at the 6'6 and the 6'8

you could try something like a 6'4 or 6'6 in leenght. maybe 2 3/8 thick. 19 wide. That should provide plenty float and be very responsive as well as being a touch more user friendly.

You have to also take into account the type of surf you gonna be mostly riding. If its gonna mainly be mushy / gutless / soft waves you may want to consider something like a fish.

No.

^ I agree - No it wont be any good for you because you are a beginner and it is a smallish board and you might get annoyed at how different a small board is compared to the board you have now.

You might be able to ride it after a couple of months of sheer dedication and then become good on it after a year or so of continual good surf.

I can surf and the difference between 6’2 and 6’8 is significant – the 6’8 feels like a long board – now consider your proposed smaller board – the difference will be very significant indeed, especially to a beginner.

No offence meant, but unless you can ride any board (whence you won’t need to ask questions !) you must trust us faceless bunch of hero’s who give our hard gained wisdom for free 8) !

Someone give the humble soul some dimensions to help him on his way.......

hey dude, i'm 6'4 and 90kg i started learning on a 6'6 x 19 1/8 x 2 3/8 (didn't know much about sizing at the time and didnt really know anyone to advise me) and it has taken a lot of perseverance and time to be able to ride it. I say go for the bigger boards like the 6'8 i think think that will be a good size, just remember it gonna be a lot harder to catch waves with your smaller board until you get comfortable on it
