New, and a couple questions =)

Hey, I'm new, first I'd like to introduce myself, my name is Luc. and I've been surfing for 2-3 months(2-3 times a week) here in Isla de Margarita, (http://magicseaweed.com/Parguito-Surf-Report/489/) with a 6'5, 18.6, 2'3 Rusty board, lent to me by a friend. I'm moving back to Miami Beach in 2 months, and I'm looking to buy a smaller shortboard... Maybe a 5'10 or 6'1.

Posted this on another forum but didn't really get a great answer =/...
Someone told me to go to the Island Water Sports in Deerfield Beach, but I noticed there's also an Island Water Sports in North Miami. I'll probably go to both and ask the people there to recommend a used board for me.
Is there a better way to find a board or ? I'm totally hooked... all I think about is surfing.

I can do a pretty good bottom turn, kind of confused on what tricks/manouvers to do next =/, so if I could get some help there to, that'd be cool =).

I've been looking on Magicseaweed, and the waves in south beach don't seem too bad... but where would be the best not too far place to surf(I can't drive, unless my sis is willing to xD )?

i have heard the waves there suck. maybe they get an occasional swell here and there but expect flatness. fish should be a safe route for a new board. Goodluck have fun!

I like my retro fish for clean small waves. I like my modern fish for poor small-mid waves since it cuts through the chop alot better.

What makes your retro fish better for clean small waves vs ur modern fish ? and how hard is it to go from my board to a fish ?

My retro fish picks up the smaller clean waves easier. Its a good bit shorter (5'11" vs. modern 6'3") so it fits into the face better and takes off like a rocket in the small stuff. The nose on the retro has alot of volume so I can really extend out over the nose to get into tiny waves where I cant as much on the modern fish. 2 different types of surfing though. My retro draws out long smooth turns while the modern is alot of fast jerky movements to keep it moving. But like I was saying, the retro twin I have is tons of fun while its clean, but bring it out on a choppy day and your bouncing all over the place and having a tuff paddle out there.

What do you think of a 5'6 fish with a 3 fin setup(2 side fins look like thruster fins, and the middle-back one is a bit smaller)
I tried it out today... in crap waves, and I also tried out a 6'3 shortboard, you can probably guess, I liked the fish much better.
So, your thoughts ? I need a new board, even though I'm leaving soon, I'll resell it before I leave.

Ps: The waves this next month aren't going to be much better than knee-waist(probably pretty choppy)

If you liked the fish more then go with it. They are fun boards in small surf. I usually take mine out in knee to chest waves and have fun. If you think they will be really small then a longboard is your best bet if your wanting more wave count. Im not sure about a fish with 3 fins though. That seems like it would take away the loose skatey feel a fish is ment to achieve. Ive rode twin fins and quads and loved both. Lately my twin fin is all I ride, so that would be my choice at the moment. Also they are ment to be ridden close to your height so they stay extra loose and skatey.

Well, I have the choice inbetween the 3 fin 5'6 fish and a 6'3 shortboard, and im gna go with the fish.
I'm buying it today, its for a month and its cheap so its no biggy. I'll keep you guys updated on what I think about the board!

I surfed a bit yesterday and all day today, and I have to say I love this board. I'm doing a lot better with it,
when im riding frontside I can do 2-3 nice pumps and finish off with a snap which is much better than what I was doing with my old board. I'm having a bit of problems with my backside though, when I try to bottom turn to start off the wave, I usually can't really get the board to turn(and just fall off) unless I kind of pull the rail of my board(in between where my two feet are positioned). Is anyone else familiar with this pulling the rail thing?
