Dude, I dig your stick, enjoy it. As to being a good board, for your age it should be a nice floatier board than your buddies so it should be easier to use right away, just not as easy to duckdive. But for a first board you should be good to go. Welcome to the best times of your life!

its quite wide and thick, even for a board that size.
It will help you catch more waves but if you are learning in a beachbreak it may just be a bit too much board for you.

Anyway try and surf as much as you can on it, and in a year or so of surfing as often as possible and trying out diferent types and sizes of surfboards get one that suits you better.

Cheers mate have fun

How good the board is will be relative to your own height and weight. I'm 5'8" at 145 lbs. My first and current board is a 6'4" / 19" / 2 3/4" Flyer and as a learning shortboarder, this board just feels perfect for me. I let my buddy, who stands 5'9" at 210 lbs, try out my board, and he found it to be tougher to use than his own board.

What I'm trying to say is if you're not obese and in need of a big boy board, then you're as fine as hourglass sand.
