Postby sebastiansurfer » Tue Nov 04, 2008 11:29 pm

i have a delimma
if i can only bring one board which would be most useful? small to med. waves

board #1
6'4-19 3/4-2 5/16
thruster, custom epoxy, very little to no water taken in.med rocker

board #2
6'0 most likely,18 1/2 to 19, just a tad under 3 or 3 in thick
thruster,poly trad.,possible water taken in.low rocker

its all on weight and heighty. im 5'11 150 lbs.

small to med wave would be my 5'10x18x2 1/4 JS combat

but if its good head height i stick with my 6'0 tokoro

so id say stick with that 6'0

need to include your weight, height, age and ability to answer better, but the bigger board would be better for catching small waves.

What's the water takin in ?? A leak from a ding??
As for which one all specs from both boards are allmost equal in float but as rocker goes the flater the easyer. But for me I'd take the med rocker
for surf conditions are allways changing and would rather have a med rocker just in case it is firing a bit better (medium waves).

Hi,

Definitely the 6'0.

I'm 5'6" and 140 pounds and my small to medium wave thruster is 5'11" x 18&3/4" x 2&5/16", as I'm a little heavier and your 6'0 is very thick it should definitely do the trick. You don't want a long board for small waves as you can't turn as quick, and a shorter length makes the quick steep take off easier. If you haven't surfed much lately and your paddling fitness is poor because of this, then you might need to go with the bigger one.

yeah dude the 6'0" is probably better for your height. I would get teh 6'4" but I'm like 4 inches taller than you and weight an extra 30 pounds, soo...

Persoanlly (@ 5'10 and 180lbs) I would go for the 6'. The reason for this decision is that , yes while the 6'4" is obviously longer, it is pretty thin. While the 6' is 4" shorter I am imagining that the beef of the foam is placed under your chest which along with the low rocker it is going to be easier to paddle into the waves and get up to planing speeds once you are up and going.
Just my two cents

I think CHarvey hit it on the head; just going by dims, it seems like the 6'0" is probably actually more suited to smaller waves; which is what it seems you want. Alsooooo, and a big one for you in particular, maybe: 6'4" is a lot more length for you to whip around... I have a 6'5" shortie that is sweet... except that if I try to ride it in little stuff it just feels like a bit too long a board to get fast snaps with. I can get floaters no problem and it's fine to ride, but if I was looking for airs and quick snappy maneuvers, I'd go shorter. (my 6'5" comes alive once it's steep shoulder high and up though!)

peace

What you guys are looking at is thickness, yes there different but one is epoxy and one is poly allso the epoxy is wider wich equals the float of a thicker board not to mention the 4" longer the epoxy holds so overall the 6'4" will float like a log in comparison wich means it will paddle easyer,,,way easyer, and we all know it's about the paddle. as for 4" making the diff for cutbacks and sprays ha ha dude were talking 4 inches not 4 feet, Fins are whats in order to change the whole dynamics of the board. Med rocker is best overall it still does the small stuff but if it happens to be a bit bigger your set and ready. I'm 5'5" and 175lbs and with a popup and stance to rip surf only have 1/3 or less of my board in front of my lead foot beeing the shortest I got is 6'3" so @ 5'8" your stance would be just a bit more and would welcome the extra 4" as for your wieght your light so thinner board should not pose any problem to you and you'll float on a huge variety of sticks, not to say you can't do a 6'0" but your 6'4" is ideal I say you put some ripper fins in it and give it a wirl you might be more supprised than you think. I would keep the 6'4" and sell the 6' and rebuy anouther 6'/6+' with a better rocker/tail/rail for say med/to med-large surf and you'll then be set for allot of different surf conditions/abilitys. Good luck and have fun doing it.

thanks for the input guys!
i get to test out the theories this weekendd.a low pressure swell comin through. round 4 footers so ima mostly be out on the 6'4.it has sharper rails and is a ton lighter for airs and sprays.but when the going gets rough ima switch.

im so stokeddddddddddddddd
i havent been able to surf in over a month due to retarded friends
