Al merrick MBM

Postby Hadow » Mon Oct 20, 2008 10:29 pm

Thinking of buying a 6'3 MBM..however when i picked it up it seemed quite heavy compared to my (main stick) 6'4 which is a little bit wider and the same thickness...must be a heavy glass job on the MBM....anyway has any1 got 1 of these or surfed 1...what do they go like? Might buy it, but obviously its alot of money and the weight of it put me off abit..but that could be me being a fussy fu*ker. :?

I don't remember them being that heavy, especially at 6'3. Not sure without looking at her, any chance it was repaired? Or maybe you just didn't eat your wheaties that morning...

The weight depends on the board outline, concave/vee shaping and rail shape also.

What is your regular stick?

I wonder if it was repaired...still selling for brand new retail price but I did notice what seemed to be extra see through glass right on the nose..but maybe thats merricks, never had1.
My board SDF 6'4 18 3/4 2 3/8 single to double concave, fair bit of nose rocker...the MBM 6'3 18 1/2 2 3/8...my 6'4 is light but thats the way I like it being a sort of 'long' shortboard...I weigh 13 stone but am quite fit and been surfing for years. Defiantly dont want to go wider that 18 3/4 and the thickness is good. Might get 1 custom made but I fancy a change from the usual....might order 1 online to replace my 6'4 keeping the same dimensions.
Was thinking of a resin8...I know there ment to be quite good but epoxy resin type boars always feel cheap or something when I hold them...never surfed 1 though.

may be 6oz glass instead of 4oz. may run a deck patch. could be a standard blank and not ultra light. Have you actually weighed it?
200grams can feel like a kilo, just because of rail profiles... We were experimenting and weighing/comparing boards on monday, in friends factory, and "feel" can give a real illusion with weight...

No mate didnt weigh it...to be honest dont think Iam going to buy it, £420 is alot of money for somthing you may be able to get cheaper which will perform just as well etc etc...
Yeah I think the glass jobs on the merrick probably was heavier! Recently picked up a Phipps board in a shop which was the same dimensions as the MBM (+ alot cheaper) but felt too light or small for my frame...it would be nice to try b4 you buy wouldnt it but then what happens if you ding it!
Your deffiantly right about 'feel' of the surfboard being an illusion!
