5'10 x 18'5 any different to 5'11 x 18.25

Postby smurf_87 » Fri Aug 22, 2008 11:44 am

hey guys have been riding a 5'10 x 18.5 x 2.25 am finding it ok but it's maybe a teeny bit small for now-i have been falling on 4/10 waves when it's over shoulder high. Tried a 6'0 x 18.25 which was a little too boaty now would a 5'11 x 18.25 be still a little small do you think or just about right?i.e how much does one inch in length equate to in width etc?
cheers really appreciated

i think the 5 10 would be the most buoyant out of all of those. it all really depends on the foil and how much volume it has. How tall are you and how much do you weigh? Also, how are you falling? are you not getting in to the waves, nose diving, or what?

i'm 5'5 and about 130 lbs. I just seem to have my feet in the wrong place/catch my foot before i get up. It might just be a case of getting used to it. is surf slow waves usually in the uk .thanks

oh and forgot to say can catch waves fine on it. The 6'0 x 18.25 i tried felt too buoyant and hard to turn, but not sure how much diff taking an inch off would make

i used to ride a 6'0'' 18.25'' 2.125 when i was your size and it worked pretty good for me, just a little big. Im 5'8 and 145lbs and i ride a 5'11'' 18'' 2'' thick in eps and is .71 cubic ft. My brother has a 5'7'' 17.75'' 2 1/16'' in eps, it's pretty much the exact same board just smaller, and it is .68 cubic ft. That should give you and idea on volume and how you might want your boards. I would reccomend ductaping around your board on the floor so u get an idea of where your feet should be and then practice pop ups to get it right before you buy a new board.
