IS this board too thin?

I'm just bought a dan taylor surfboard..the demensions are 5'11x 18'' x 2''. I'm about 5'6 and weigh about 125 pounds. I also live in south florida, where the waves tend to be a bit mushy. I was just wondering if the board was maybe too thin to catch waves on. I thought it was thicker before i bought it.

Any help would be useful as there is someone who wants to buy the board, but i don't know whether to keep it or sell it.

Depends on your skill level.

The fact that you're asking suggests that is probably too short, too narrow and too thin.

Thanks for the help guys...went out yesterday finally got some decent surf. 5 to 6 foot choppy but the board had no trouble catching anything.

thats good, its personal opinion, personally id find it too thin but if it works for you then good.

For the lentgh it sounds too thin, and I don't think it will work well on anything under 5 foot.

sounds like a difficult board to ride! especially in smaller waves. however you are small so might be possible but doesn't sound promissing

Keep it but get a bigger board to, build a quiver.

i think you may be wrong here. the board in question sounds about the same dimentions as my 5'11 which i use in smaller waves from about 2-5ft wont work in anything bigger as there just isnt enough volume to paddle in to bigger waves. its loads of fun in smaller ones though.

thanks for the help guys....i've been surfing it for a couple months now and it works in everything from 2ft. and the biggest i've surfed it in has been 7ft. So it's a pretty good board, a little harder to paddle when it's smaller though.

I don't think it's the size of the wave height-wise but how fast it is. My 6.0 custom is about that wide and thick. I was a dumb kid and wanted a "cool" looking board when I got it. It slices through fast beach breaks but on mushy pointbreaks, I am pumping like a Mexican jumping bean on that thing just to make it out of the section. Sometimes I even have to go from standing to lying back down on the board, paddle through, and get back up again to make it out.

hmm.if the nose and tail are rather narrow too than thats just plain odd.whenever i go to my local beach and see kids with boards round those diminsions and size,they're more pissed than a little white kid who didnt get the right toy.its hilarious.but thats great it works for you!
