Shortboard maneurvability vs width

Hi All,

I have just custom ordered a board (6'2 x 18'3/4 x 2'1/4) a few days ago. I was struggling to make up my mind on the width of the board.
I actually wanted it to be 18'1/2 but have to settle with 18'3/4 at the end with more bouyancy/stability in consideration. I just wonder how much difference it will make in terms of maneuvrability if it was made 18'1/2 instead of 18'3/4.

Any kind of advice will be very much appreciated.

None, that most people would notice! If you are asking the question, you probably wouldn't notice the difference!

As for the increased voulme/stability, that extra 1/4" gives you 0.36ltr of extra volume - a little bit more than a can of coke.

If you surf like Slater then you might be able to tell the difference between the two boards. I know I certainly couldn't

Wider boards are more maneuverable in some respects .

Shouldn't affect turning cability much, although the buoyancy might give you a little extra speed to set up turns. I think the tail's rocker, shape, and dimensions will affect maneuverability more. Fins make a good difference as well.

won't make noticeable difference, it's the rail shape that will affect it
