Its time for the van to go :(
Actually, I should have sold it weeks ago and now Im running out of time so you could get a bit of a bargain...

Volkswagen T25 Hi-top camper
B-reg, 1985
1.6 diesel engine.

80,000 miles on the clock (second time around), about 70,000 on this reconditioned engine.

Fully kitted out camper with rock n' roll bed, Can also sleep kids in top.
Three-way (battery, gas, 240Vmains) fridge,
Three-way (battery, leisure battery, 240V mains) zig unit
Gas cooker with 2 gas bottles.
Sink and tap.
Table.
Excellent lighting.
Rover front seats.
CD player.
Security safe.
Lots of other stuff (picnic seats, vacuum cleaner, box chair (or loo holder if you prefer), can be supplied with cooking stuff and bedding if needed)

Good bits -
Very reliable engine.
New starter motor.
Metal water pipes replaced with reliable plastic ones.
Very little rust.
Sound underneath.
Purple paint job.

It's a dearly loved van that I'm really upset about getting rid of, but circumstances mean its got to go.

It's a fantastic surf van. Getting a van will completely change your view of surfing, particularly in winter.

I'm in West London. If you're genuinely interested then PM me and I can give you more details, and we can discuss price.

The owner of the photo, MrsDBBB, says 'No! Thats my photo!'.

But Im sure we could come to an arrangement if you were to buy the van

Maybe we could come to some sort of 3 year lease agreement with the avatar and a permanent citation to MrsDBBB with each use of the said avatar.

On a more serious note my mate (who lives in London) is looking for a surf van, I'm not sure exactly what he's after and he's probably a bit too metrosexual to pull off the purpleness (it could push him over the edge). But I'll pass this tread onto him.

Just out of interest, what are the running costs on a van like that - fuel consumption, insurance etc?

Damned van didnt reach its reserve price on eBay so still trying to flog it, before I go on Thursday
(Actually I'll hand over the keys to MrsDBBB and then its her problem).

Running costs are dirt cheap - its a 1.6 diesel that travels at 60mph, so it sips fuel relative to a 'real' vehicle. Insurance is cheap because of its camper-status (its a lot cheaper when you've got windows and a fixed in bed as its definitely not a work van).

Repair costs can be a different matter - they need a lot of maintenance, although parts are dirt cheap compared to modern vehicles (the fact that there are companies run by enthusiasts helps this), so if you're happy to do a bit of spanner work yourself then its not too bad. Time is the main thing you need with a camper...

I'm missing my camper already :(

And I havent even sold it yet

Okay, after the badly timed wheel bearing debacle... it fell apart just before I left for Oz, leaving my girlfriend with an incapacitated van. Then the garage that was supposed to be fixing it fixed the wrong side :bang:

...the van has been fixed, and is back up for sale, all happy and functioning with no major problems.

Look, people, its winter... you need a van

And Im just about to buy another one and owning two in separate hemispheres would be silly

So PM me if you're interested and I'll see what I can do. Right now, getting everything sorted before my girlfriend leaves the UK is the priority, and not the price, so it could be a bargain!

:( The vas has gone, been sold, has gone to someone else's driveway

I know its only a vehicle... but campers get so personal that Im really upset its gone! Blood, sweat and tears (and a great deal of purple paint) went into making the van 'ours'

Oh well... into a new era...

Ive just got myself a toyota van - there arent many VWs about, and this one will do for now - which was called Betty by the previous owners, so we've renamed it 'Fugly Betty'.

Yuck, it'll never be a classic... *scans the for sale section for a bay*
