Camper Van/Surf Bus for Sale £1,800 mot/tax/cam belt

Postby scottysurf » Fri Dec 04, 2009 11:56 am

Hi I'm selling my rare 1988 ('E' plate) Freight Rover Sherpa camper van owned nearly 2 yrs Much loved van is navy blue with white hi-top roof and "surfy" interior. More original than owning a VW , just as reliable and lot cheaper.
Basic Stuff:
Freight Rover Sherpa 230 (registered as a motorhome)
Diesel
2,000 cc engine
1st reg. 01/06/88
V5 document present
MOT Sept 2010
Tax March 2010
172,450miles on clock(sounds high but remember it's non-turbo diesel engine, original British built quality with recent cam belt change)
PRICE: £1,800

Good Stuff:
New Timing/Cam Belt less at 164,408 miles (with receipt proof) Did not fail I just thought I'd get changed as no service history when I bought (for those not mechanically minded this is prob most expensive thing to replace on a car and engine likely to be destroyed if suddenly breaks, should be replaced every 60,000mls).
New large capacity Battery this year (with receipt proof)
Other work, inc. clutch slave cylinder, firestone tyre, etc (various receipts)
New Replacement Parts available (mainly LDV) and not expensive (I will give buyer contact)
MOT til mid Sept. 2010
Tax til end March 2010 (3 more years and it's vintage tax exempt)
Driven daily (not left standing) and apart from bits of work above has never let me down in nearly 2 years I've owned.
Specialist motorhome insurance which makes it cheap to insure
Good Tyres
No major rust

Interior:
Clean interior with tons of storage. New curtains and mattress/seat covers/white lino floor (replced by me -tasteful and "surfy", no draylon). No cooking, toilet etc as I prefer to do all that stuff outside my living space and leave room to store my things. Currently sleeps one on comfortable permanent (not fold away) bed/sofa. But I was planning to extend fold out part to make it a double, which you could do with minimal diy skills (I ll show plan).
Awning (Fiamma) attached to side of van, poles, sides, groundsheets, etc included in sale.
Interior Electric lights and plug sockets, new looking fuse box. This works as friend tested it but I couldn't afford to get professionally tested and wires hanging loose so got him to disconnect it as I don't like risking electric but sure it's fine if you know a bit. Electric hook up for sites (not tested). Got car battery in shed you could have if it helps.
Insulation panels in walls, makes it warmer in winter/cooler in summer

Bad Stuff:
Chip in windscreen -been there since I bought it through 2 MOTs so caused me no problem
Small dent in back door -does not affect door opening
Original Back door handle not working -I have always secured with padlock (inc in sale) and fine
Small patches of rust on bottom edges and wheel arch -small and don't seem to be spreading but might be good idea to do bit of treating come spring so this van really does go on for ever.
Only significant rust patch is inside of bottom passenger door (not visable from outside).
Bit of white smoke from exhaust when starting on cold days. But I had this checked out and as this disappears quickly when driven, I've been assured not a problem.

Sorry for going on for ages wanted to be honest as I can here. I'm no mechanic and can only go off fact it runs well for me each day with no mechanical or major bodywork problems I know of. Receipts for work done. Sailed through last MOT no problem. Guy who did this MOT (Sept 09) said good van underneath and engine for age and couldn't foresee any welding etc next year. This is only hearsay but comfort to me at time as wasn't thinking of selling then. Am only selling now as forced to buy different car for work travel (boring I know). Please contact me if any questions which I'll answer honestly to best of my knowledge. Contact me if you want to view (Please only serious buyers interested in giving this van a loving new home). I'm in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire (HP12). I'm working from home most days this week. Note: this post is edited version as decided to reduce price and update couple of details so please reread. Thanks.
From Scotty
